Our Garden Project: Little Hands, Big Lessons

With the support of the City of Tallinn, we have created a beautiful vegetable garden right here at our kindergarten, turning our outdoor space into a living classroom.

At LANA, we believe that some of the most profound lessons don’t come from books, but from the earth itself. Our gardening project is the living embodiment of one of our key pillars—Nature as our wisest teacher.
Each summer, our children become true gardeners. They plant the seeds themselves, carefully water the sprouts, and watch with wonder as tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, and carrots grow before their very eyes. Finally, they get to harvest the results of their care. This is active, hands-on learning at its most meaningful.

The joyful harvest is a wonderful reward, but the real growth happens throughout the journey. Through this simple, cyclical process, children learn powerful, lifelong lessons:

Patience and Responsibility: They learn that growth takes time and that living things depend on their care.

Science in Action: They witness the magic of the natural world firsthand—how a seed becomes food and the roles of sun and water.

A Connection to Food: They develop a deep appreciation for where their food comes from, fostering a healthy relationship with nutrition.

The Joy of Effort: They experience the deep satisfaction of seeing—and tasting!—the delicious results of their own hard work and dedication.

Our garden is more than just a place to grow vegetables. It’s a place where we grow curiosity, cultivate responsibility, and nurture a deep, lasting connection to the natural world.
